We are cooperating in several large research projects, together with research partners as well commercial partners.

We offer  probiotic formulations with documented effect. It is our aim to develop the most optimal probiotic formulation for intestinal microbiota related problems. Therefore, we are continuously working on new probiotic formulations and new research projects to improve existing products.

New research projects

Prebiotics

We have started a project on prebiotics, in which several substrates have been tested for their capacity to increase the growth and activity of the probiotic strains in the Winclove probiotic collection. The result will be an optimal combination of prebiotic ingredients that can be added to existing probiotic formulations. The prebiotic formulation is expected to be ready at the end of 2012.

Stomach-resistant capsules

We are looking for new application forms that effectively bring the probiotic formulations into the gastrointestinal tract. As an example, the so-called ‘slow-release’ capsules. These capsules are resistant to the extreme conditions of the stomach (low pH) and intestines (bile salts) and deliver the probiotics directly into the intestines where they become metabolically active. A trial with healthy volunteers to test the ‘survival’ capacity of these new capsules has been performed.

FibeBiotics

Winclove is participating in European project called “FibeBiotics”. The goal of this project is to support the development of functional food ingredients and products that are beneficial for the human gut and immune system and therefore of crucial importance for quality of life. The project will study the effects of specific non-digestible polysaccharides (NPS) which have shown health potential in this field.
